I had the pleasure and the responsibility of caring for my amazing son, Manuel (Manny) Rodriguez, every day of his life until he went home to be with the Lord on October 10, 2018, at the age of 40. The enduring lesson he taught me through his brilliant light and infectious smile is that, in God’s eyes, we are all the same.

He was my joy, my strength, and my heart, even amid the difficulties and hurdles that came with the challenges he faced due to his disabilities.

His courage inspired me to write this book in the hope that parents will use it as a catalyst for the essential conversations we should all have with our children about the differences they observe in others. As our children grow and encounter people who are different from them, we as parents must help them understand that while physical and mental disabilities exist, inside, we are all the same.

We need to show our children that despite our differences, we all have feelings—and with love for one another, we can all live great and meaningful lives.

Manny’s life inspired me to share the message that We Are All the Same, and my hope is that you and your children will continue to spread that message to everyone you love.
